good win Lopez and Zayas

Good match we witnessed tonight; Lopez was back in all respects after nine months almost out of the ring.

Campa did his job, continuous pressing, strikes put back on Teofimo’s attacks, and above all thanks to his work Teofimo showed that he can stay in this category where he is smaller; the rounds were only seven, the referee decided to make it all stop after a takedown and relentless action by Teofimo, which led to a passive defense of the Mexican boy and the good refree to stop him before the punishment became excessive;

What we saw: very good movements of Lopez, on offense and defense, very good combinations, a few too many blows cashed especially at the short, a domination until the fifth; in this round the boy went off and took a break; we really didn’t like this and we should analyze why, very active on the legs, but not present in active defensive phases i.e. he struggled to contain Campa, as if he didn’t or couldn’t find that distance and precision with the timing to bring the blows; which then from the sixth came like a machine gun working at full capacity, and then closed in the seventh the games.

Here this pause we could not understand it,it seemed to us a fact related to the physical athletic preparation for the match; the fact that he cashed some blows too much( in our opinion) ;of course there is to consider that Campa is a good tenacious fighter great physicality, not exactly light blows, a perfect test match for this new weight category. That said there is always to improve a little something a little rust of these months post defeat, but otherwise a sixth round that showed that the eye and timing of the champion remained intact, the work to be done is on the defense post attack in our opinion, and in a match maybe a challenge with the super champion Taylor would be welcome thing to the boxing world.

Also of the evening Zayas who took five rounds to stoppage his opponent who went down in the first; but it was not a walkover as one might guess from the result; Elias his relatively solid opponent but with decent arm speed crossed him with a right jab, on the jab and that gives us pause a little, then the talented Zayas took steps but landed a few right hands, which he certainly would not have imagined he would suffer. Devastating was the blow at the beginning of the round that sent Elias down, but then second and third were shots in our opinion of Espada; certainly the talent of the Puerto Rican boy is unquestionable,but he suffered a little too much in our opinion, a little bit his impetuosity as a young man a little bit the fact, that to see himself being held up for a couple of rounds by a fighter of average quotation, annoyed him not a little, complicit in the fact that he unloaded some low blows on his rival with consequent calls from the referee; but the story ended well because in the end talent coupled with devastating power made the difference; but there is work to be done especially at the beginning of the match and in the defensive phase, if he puts the jab followed by the series it is all right, but the jab alone suffers deceleration and cashing a right hand on that blow is not a good calling card given the goals that have been set for him. Such as the fact that in some movements, he stopped after the blow and suffered ( here is further proof that in boxing any opponent will punish you if you don’t do perfectly your job of defense post offensive series)Huge his joy after the perfect blow that sent down Elias in the fifth with such exclamations that highlighted his excessive suffering for a match that of routine was not, for three rounds for sure, despite the result,but we know that in boxing to suffer a little is normal custom. Bravo to the talented Zayas really good though..
