one year in, one year out
We’ll take a brief look at the best and most exciting matches of the year.
We think that the match of the year has been the one between Teofilo Lopez and Vasily Lomacenko; after announcing the victory of the American, younger, endowed with remarkable punch, great technique, and hunger for victory; we affirm that Teofilo has confirmed that he possesses all the numbers to continue to write, pages of boxing history, since beating Vasily, a very important one, he has already written at 23 years old.

Then, I would place, the challenge between the heavyweights Fury against Wilder, where the Englishman has proven to have a head that exceeds his physical part, because Wilder is stronger, but he lost, a little because the game plan was completely wrong, and a lot because Tyson has shown that he is incredibly strong with his head, (in addition to having the physical numbers); he entered, he has eviscerated his boxing, and he has been ruthless, and he is the king of the category (we await the challenge with Antony Joshua).
Another great match, between heavyweights, with certainly the best shot resolver of the year was between Povetkin and White, we remember the Russian down twice, then a left uppercut from the manual of boxing, which knocks out the Englishman, apotheosis of boxing in one shot, the Russian was world champion and Olympic gold medal.
Another match that we liked a lot is Canelo against Smith, further evidence of extreme strength, technique and superiority of a man of 173 cm that boasts 5 crowns in their respective weight categories, from welterweight to medium maximum, well even here written page of history, Canelo is Canelo!
A stellar match in my opinion, candidate for fight of the year has been Ioka vs Tanaka, the little Japanese, have shown a truly incredible show worthy of a boxing Oscar.
Zepeda vs Baranchyk was for sure the one with the most landings, eight in five rounds, fantastic, what can I say, and also a candidate for match of the year.
Another match to be included, is Spence, after his accident, who beats Danny Garcia to the points, really good from a technical point of view, given the caliber of the protagonists, Spence is a world champion, Garcia does not have a title, at the moment, but is one of those who should have it, is a monster.
Match, another surprise of the year was Joyce vs Dubois, it’s one of those times where the strongest doesn’t win, but the one who came strongest in the ring wins, Joyce. Dubois was seen as almost bewildered, maybe not ready yet, to face Joyce, but it’s past looking forward.
A year that has seen Berlanga and Ortiz arrive with the same undefeated record of 16,16ko, irony of the fate; Virgil has confirmed himself a super boxer very young and already ready for important challenges; Berlanga boasts 16 victories by knockout at the first round, and also he is ready for title challenges.
Other prospects including Zayas, Picasso, Fundora, Gabriel Flores jr, Elvis Rodriguez, and others that we do not mention, but it will be a great 2021 (as fortunately is repeated, always) that will allow us to continue to attend great boxing shows, we should really mention many others in all weight categories, but we mention these that we say have, in our opinion, more highlighted in this year.
2021 began with the King taking his first scepter against Luke Campbell. A few days later, with Tyson on the living room as they talked, Tank’s call comes in, and there goes the live challenge (I don’t really like this trash talk) but it gives us an idea of what this 2021 could look like in terms of challenges, the boxing machine thankfully continues to run, and we’ll want to see it hurtle along with the best possible and viable challenges.
