Joe Smith Jr

Smith versus Alvarez

The main event, which was basically a preliminary round for a world championship, was won by Joe Smith jr.

Alvarez defeated Kovalev, and compared to Smith he is more technical, faster not more powerful for sure, he started with the favorable predictions, but this is also boxing.

His plans were undermined by a slightly widened right hook that made the difference, which Joe brought with impressive consistency and frequency.

Alvarez lost all the shots, before the knockout came in the ninth, after precisely a combination ended with a straight left preceded by a right, but it was the incessant and continuous action and bringing a myriad of shots, to ensure that the signs of a surrender could be seen;

at the fourth Alvarez is sitting on the stool and waiting for the bell while Joe is already in the center of the ring and then at the seventh, the way to sprinkle himself with vaseline, at the limit of the regulation, in short, honor to Joe Smith who has really pressed, incessantly Alvarez who remains a excellent element, except that last night he was not really in the game, and his 36 years and the fights especially those with Kovalev, perhaps left their mark.

It was a hard, hard-fought match; with Smith in constant search of the heavy hit, but with combinations of two or three hits, many of which are hit.

Really intense, a fierce battle, which has decreed the future competitor who will compete for a world title.

Smith is tenacious, strong young, but technically he has to improve something, but yesterday he had a great match and also in his interview he reiterated the fact that he always works in the gym, he has learned a lot from the defeat with Bivol and is now ready for another opportunity, enjoy his well-deserved victory.

What impressed us, I say really impressed was the victory of Duke Ragan, a featherweight category boy, who made his debut against Luis Alvarado.

The match lasted about two minutes and 22 seconds, and ended with a short straight right that turned off the light bulbs to Luis who was jumping, after the shot received, but he was not absolutely lucid, and able to continue; we really liked this guy, because in the two minutes he proved to have an excellent problem solving to get, to hit his opponent; and another thing we liked was that after a series he lowered his hand and Luis touched him with a left hook, after a while he put the series back by raising his hand, so he did not let himself touch or rather the shot he went on the glove and then he replied … well we think he has numbers and more than good power.
