Vettori vs Roberson

Last night in Las Vegas (13/06/2020) was held the ESPN UFC 10

The UFC is the most important fight promotion for cage fighting, allowing kicks, punches and takedowns, inclunding strikes to grounded opponents with the limitation of blows to the back of the head being prohibited; elbows are allowed as well.

The ruleset is simple enough, we just wish to explain the context briefly.

The co-main event included one Mr Marvin Vettori facing Robertson.

Let’s start by saying that Robertson was 4,5 lbs overweight and as such, he was already heavier than Marvin at the weigh-in.

The match was not very long (4.17, first round), Vettori finished Robertson with a rear naked choke, a textbook perfect strangulation technique that earned him the 50.000 dollars performance bonus.

The fight started with no touching of the gloves, which then again, is not required: after the referee says ‘fight’, it is a matter of preference.

I liked Vettori’s stand-up a lot, especially facing a definitely bigger opponent, since the weight cut, and this is a hot topic, can make a big difference.

Marvin was careful in the standing phase, then brought the fight to the ground and in one exchange he defended like a consummate wrestler, then transitioned to ground-and-pound and finally took the opponent’s back and secured the choke. It sounds easy, but Robertson is a good athlete and Marvin proved that we are on the right track; let’s not forget that he lost to Adesanya by split decision!

With this fight Marvin showed great progress and a hunger as well, which is noteworthy: Marvin is Italian but he has plenty of American-like ruthlesness, cold blood and professionalism, mixed with a touch of liveliness and excitement that are absolutely fitting given that at his young age he’s fighting in the biggest venue in the world… Thank you Mr Vettori!

We’re waiting for Mr. Manzo now, before other news, in the UFC, without forgetting the other guys fighting for Bellator, Pedersoli, Giorgio and above all we hope that the many more great fighters we have here make that jump.

You go, guys and Thank you for the spectacle you delivered and will deliver!
